SCORE Trophy-Truck
5 Marty Coyne – Heat 1
It’s a little wet and slippery right now but you know, with our pro-cup trophy truck and Coyne motorsports team… the truck just ran fantastic and it was great. We got the whole shot and just took it all the way so we’re excited. It works good I think were getting a little too much bite right now. It’s kind of bogging a little bit right now but we’re going to work on it when we go back to the pits so we’re ready for the main event but it’s great.
It’s hot baby!

Class 7
707 Larry Roeseler – Heat 1
Well, like I was telling everybody, last year was one of the funnest races that we’ve ever done. And like Sal says, it’s a little piece of Baja and we can show the spectators what these cars can do…the punishment, the excitement. And at the same time, it puts a big smile on our face, too. You know, it’s a lot of fun and a lot of fans. Like Fremont Street last night was just spectacular. We do amazing things down there in Mexico and across the desert at 100 miles per hour but people can never see that really so this is good for the spectators.
This little truck is amazing. This is our fourth season in it. I’ve won a few championships in this car. It’s an amazing little class seven.
As you can see, I’m sweating pretty good. It’s not as bad as I thought it was going to be. But you know…really, it’s hard on the equipment, too…the transmissions and motors not to mention the bodies. We’re drinking a lot of water. But it’s a great summer break you know, it’s a fun time.
The fun ha just begun. So we’re ready to go!

Class 10
1002 Darren Hardesty – Heat 1
It went really smooth. It was a lot of fun. I’d like to thank Yokohama and Offroad Warehouse and Borden for putting together a great car for us. With a lot of help from Desert Assassins, we were able to pull it off.
You know, it’s pretty hot once you get in the car with the helmet and the driving suit on it gets pretty warm but once the green flag drops, you don’t think about anything else.
I can’t wait for three more heats. It’s going to be a lot of fun!

1202 Cameron Steele – Heat 1
We just kicked everyone’s ass! So things must be alright at Desert Assassins! We are 1-1 Class 10 first place Darren Hardesty and then we were able to win here in the SCORE Lights. We’re looking at keeping it going all weekend. We’ re hoping for a sweep. I don’t want to jinx myself but I’d like to torture those boys all weekend long in the buggies and hope for good things in the Trophy Truck 4th in the first heat isn’t too band and my partner Clyde is coming up fist time ever in the number 13 so I’m sensing the danger zone. This year, the course is good…it’s fast. This DA-12 car is ridiculous how good it is and the 16 car…it’s almost like cheating. Actually we are cheating but we don’t want anyone to know what we’re doing. We’re fun that way...causing trouble!

Class 1
103 Jeff Quinn – Heat 1
You always do great when you win. [The course is] a little slippery but not bad. They’re starting to get some pretty big ruts in the corners. You have to watch not grabbing those wanting to tip the car over. The track is pretty fast. The car is handling the jumps awesome and that’s what’s picking me up the speed.
What wind? What heat? (Laughs) When you’re in the car going you kind of forget about all the elements and you just deal with it. Oh yes! I can’t wait [for the weekend]. I’ve got four more to go…or three more anyways.
[The vehicle] is just perfect. I couldn’t ask for anything better. The thing is working just great!

SCORE Trophy-Truck
97 B.J. Baldwin – Heat 2
I feel fantastic. I feel really good. [The course] was pretty cool. It was a neat course. I wish it was a little bit rougher which would have benefited us a little better. I think our truck works better in the rough. But we did good. Obviously we won. So we did good.
Actually, my dad raced the first heat and this is my first time around the course. But in practice…it’s a lot rougher than practice. Last year was a lot rougher. I kind of like last year’s course a little bit better, but this year’s course is really neat, too. I don’t feel the wind or the dust. You know, we’re used to desert race…a lot of silt in desert race. That doesn’t affect us here.
Yeah! Absolutely! [I’m looking forward to the weekend.] Actually this is a totally different truck [than last year] and a totally different set up than our desert set up. The truck sits about 5 inches lower. Different spring rates, different shocks all around and obviously the tire pressure and tire set up.

Class 1-2/1600
1616 Bryan Freeman – Heat 2
It’s muddy and dark in this back section is dark. Other than that it’s pretty good. Just really, really muddy. These cars don’t hook up very good in the mud. But it’s good.
The first heat, I lost the first gear. So I had to get it back and I had an hour to do the tranny work and stuff. So I barely made it in enough time and then got out here.
[After the first heat,] when it got dark, you can’t see in the back section. That’s really the only thing. Just go! Don’t let anybody pass me! That’s all [that’s going through my mind during the race].
[I’m looking forward to the weekend.] I have to go back and change the tranny because the thing just is exploded. So we have a lot of work to do tonight. But we’ll be back tomorrow night.

1603 David Caspino – Heat 2
I’m doing great! I need water! [Overall] it’s really fun, really slick. There ’s no lights in the back corner…you can’t see anything! [Going through my mind when I raced…] Brian was right behind me and I better go a lot faster! It ran great. My thanks to Lothringer, Micky Thompson Tires and God.

Class 7
707 Larry Roeseler – Heat 2
This is a little taste of Baja. Sometimes you’re out in the middle of nowhere and the lights aren’t on…it keeps it interesting. It’s the same for everybody.
[I would like to dedicate this race to…]
I think everybody knows that Troy Herbst and I were partners in the Shark, in the Baja 1000 coming up this November he just broke his Achilles tendon. He’s not here tonight. I know he’s just dying to be driving and be part of this but November is the SCORE Baja 1000 and we’ve won the last two years. So believe me, it’s the biggest race of the year for us so we can pull that off three yeas in a row. I’m just trying to keep sharp and keep on my game and not have another incident.
I’m feeling great. I got to start on the front row, on the inside, and stayed clean. Again, the track is fun. It just makes me smile. It’s really a lot of fun. Tomorrow will be different. Everyone will be on their game, running a little harder. Tonight was more like practice. The car is running fantastic. You can see it watching the finish-line jump, even brutal for the Trophy Trucks. It ’s sort of a hard landing and this thing takes it really nice. All the other stuff was really fun. The biggest difference between the little trucks and the big trucks is that the little trucks are a lot narrower and tends to want to roll a lot easier on the sharp turns and you get good traction so you’ve got to be careful. I could hike this thing up on the side real easily. The big trucks are a lot more stable, so you don’t have to worry about that too much, but you just got to be ready to steer out of it and drop it out if it happens.

Class 10
1002 Darren Hardesty – Heat 2 We were really driving hard that time. The track was a lot drier the second heat so that made it for more fun racing. It’s really dark coming down the back stretch. You can’t see the jumps. It’s just a black road so it’s kinda scary but you’re racing so you don’t want to let off. The more scary it is the more fun it is for me. We had a little shifting problem the first heat so we got that fixed. The car is running great.

Class 1
111 Danny Anderson – Heat 2 Everything went good that race. We had a little problem in the first race with the carburetor but we fixed it. No problems at all the second heat. I think the course was great. It was a little better this heat, a little drier and the corners have some grooves in it. It’s fun. I’m looking forward to tomorrow.

SCORE Trophy-Truck
5 Marty Coyne – Heat 2 –First Place Semi-Main This is a great feeling. We won twice tonight and we’re hoping for a repeat tomorrow night. We won last year. Robby [Gordon] raced me clean. That’s all I asked him to do and we were able to hold him off and have the right moves so we’ re excited. We’re pumped. If you can beat Robby Gordon on any day, you’re doing a good job. I ran the vehicle hard. It’s smoking. Hopefully everything is gonna be O.K. Our Coyne Motorspots is gonna take a look at it and see. Like I said to beat Robby [Gordon] is an honor for me and my team.

83 Robby Gordon – Heat 2 – Second Place Semi-Main
Tomorrow night we’ll be on it, but we went this whole race with no brakes.

SCORE Lite
1600 Cameron Steele – Heat 2 (end of race quote)
It’s all about winning tomorrow night. We’ll be back to do it in the 16’s, 10 as well, and hopefully have some fun in the SCORE Trophy-Truck and go for it D.A. [Desert Assassin] Style
