Round 2, 2007 SCORE Desert Series 27 Nevadans among race-record 394 entries from 18 states, six countries Entered in Saturday’s 21st Tecate SCORE Baja 250 Nevadans include Ed, Tim and Troy Herbst, Brian Collins, Rob MacCachren, B.J. and Bobby Baldwin, Brendan and John Gaughan, Adam and Bekki Wik, Mark and C.J. Hutchins, Bill and Robert McBeath LOS ANGELES—While late registration will continue right up to race morning, there are currently 27 Nevadans among a race-record 394 official entries in Saturday’s 21st Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 250 desert race. Round 2 of the six-race 2007 SCORE Desert Series will start in Ensenada and finish in Santo Tomas, Baja California, Mexico. “The number of entries in the Tecate SCORE Baja 250 is remarkable by itself, but when you consider that in spite of the incredible challenges forced upon us to change race venues, to have our entries climb to this level is a real testament to the commitment of our SCORE racers”, said Sal Fish, SCORE CEO and President. “Since we had to change venues last Monday, we have had another 46 new entries and only 15 official withdrawals. SCORE has worked incredibly hard this week with the help of government officials in Mexico to put together a challenging and exciting race course and a fun start in Ensenada and a good finish line area in Santo Tomas.” Led by Las Vegas brothers Tim and Ed Herbst, there are seven local drivers in the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division for high-tech, 800 horsepower, unlimited production trucks. Besides the Herbst brothers, other Las Vegas drivers entered in SCORE Trophy-Truck are defending series point champion B.J. Baldwin and his father Bobby Baldwin, Rob MacCachren, Brian Collins, Bill McBeath and Kory Scheeler. Leading the local racers in the unlimited Class 1 are defending series Overall point champion Troy Herbst, Pat Dean, B.J. Richardson and NASCAR Truck Series regular Brendan Gaughan. With a race-record field of 394 entries, to date, from 18 U.S. States, Mexico, Canada, England, Italy and New Zealand, Round 2 of the six-race 2007 SCORE Desert Series, the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Series, will be the first of three races produced annually by SCORE in Mexico. The finish line area for the point-to-point course of 216.23 miles will be Santo Tomas, located 30 miles south of Ensenada. All vehicles will have a 9-hour time limit in the elapsed time race and vehicles will start in 30-second intervals. The start line will be at the end of Avenida Ruiz in Ensenada, approx. two miles east of downtown. The actual finish line area will be in the Santo Tomas baseball field, along Highway 1, 1.5 miles south of the center of Santo Tomas. With racers competing in 27 Pro and 6 Sportsman classes. The green flag will drop at 6 a.m. on Saturday, for the motorcycle and ATV classes, followed by the car and truck classes three hours after the last ATV at approximately 10 a.m. The record field in the 21st Tecate SCORE Baja 250 is led by the unlimited Class 1 with 37 vehicles, the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division with 36, Class 1-2/1600 with 29, SCORE Lite with 28, Class 10 with 22, Class 30 with 17, Class 22 with 16 and Class 25 with 15. So far, 231 of the entries are cars or trucks and 163 are either motorcycles (108) or ATVs (55). Late registration will be accepted up until race morning, virtually guaranteeing a final starting grid of more than 360 for the first time in the colorful 20-year history of the popular race. The previous entry record of 362 set last year and last year’s 341 star ters were both the most in the event’s history. Pre-race festivities at the Tecate SCORE Baja 250 will include the colorful SCORE Midway and tech inspection to be held across from the San Nicolas Hotel in downtown Ensenada from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday. At 10 a.m. on Sunday , the awards celebration will be held poolside at the San Nicolas Hotel. Racer registration will be held at the San Nicolas from 2-7p.m. next Thursday and 8:30-4:30 p.m. next Friday. The 2007 SCORE Desert Series also includes the chase for the $75,000 Kartek Off-Road contingency bonus to be awarded to several 2007 SCORE Class point champions along with the run for the $12,000 Toyota True Grit and Toyota Milestone Awards. Round 4 of the 2007 SCORE Desert Series will be the SCORE Las Vegas Terrible's Cup III, to be held under the lights July 20-21 at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
