Dear Off-Road Enthusiasts:
You’ve stopped your race vehicle at the finish line after
traversing over 500 miles of tough terrain. You have battled and scraped all-day
and part
of the night, with not only other competitors, but with some of the most unforgiving
desert in the world. You have taken your race vehicle to the high elevations
of the mountains, and then back down to the dusty desert floor, you have crossed
100-mile per hour dry lakebeds, and raced in some of the most awesome tight,
twisty sand washes in the world. “Yes,” you are now in Reno, Nevada, “The
Biggest Little City In The World” and you are at the finish line of “The
Longest Off-Road Race In The United States,” the world famous “Vegas
to Reno!”
A thrill comes over you when you see the checkered flag; it’s
a sense of accomplishment that is hard to explain to someone. Both you and
your team
realize what you have accomplished; the excitement, the risks, the challenges,
the exhilaration to reach this magical place. If you can envision this scene,
then you and I have a lot of things in common! We both like long distance off-road
races, adventure and excitement in our lives. I envision hosting the most awesome
and unique off-road race, like no other off-road race in the United States,
an event that will test the skills and perseverance of even the most seasoned
off-road racers. A high profile event where the extreme variations in geography
and climate, combined with the history of the land would make for a very special
and memorable race. Speaking of history of the land, the 2005 – TSCO “Vegas
to Reno” racecourse will actually have you racing on the famous “Pony
Express Trail!”
People are always asking me the question, “What
motivates Casey Folks?” Easy
question for me to answer, I have lived my entire life fulfilling my dreams.
One of my dreams has been to create the most awesome off-road race of all time,
a race across an entire state, TSCO “Vegas to Reno”. I get a great
joy and a sense of pride from hosting a great race, it also makes me feel good
inside to see all of the enjoyment and enthusiasium from all of you off-road
adventure seeking enthusiasts. This is what motivates Casey Folks!
With more
than 35 years in the off-road industry, both as a competitor, and as a businessman,
I still find my fascination with the sport of off-road racing
renewed on a daily basis. I’ve never been bored by the sport, or the
people involved with the sport of off-road racing, how could I? Few sports
require so much of an athlete – physically, intellectually, and emotionally.
Off-road racers must posse’s skills in all of these areas in order to
succeed, and the personal reward is tremendous! It’s not just the victory
I’m talking about, it’s the challenge! To know that you’ve
accomplished something that only a few will even attempt, and to know that
you have used every ounce of your being just to finish the race. That’s
what I mean by challenge!! It’s a feeling you can’t explain to
someone who has never experienced it! What a great sport!
Now, I want each
of you reading this letter to fulfill your dreams! I want you to take the challenge!
I want all of you to come and join with me on a
true off-road adventure! I want to shake your hand, and give you your finisher
pin at the finish line in Reno! I want you to have the memories of the TSCO “Vegas
to Reno” to share with your family and friends! This year’s TSCO “Vegas
to Reno” entrants will experience for themselves, finding out first hand,
how much the spirit of camaraderie exists and how easy it is for me to be motivated!
As
in the past, please think of this letter as my personal invitation to come
join me October 2005, in my off-road adventure across the State of Nevada,
for “The Longest Off-Road Race In The United States” TSCO “Vegas
to Reno!” Thank you for your enthusiasm and dedication to the sport of
off-road racing! I look forward to seeing each of you at the Gold Coast Hotel
in Las Vegas!
Sincerely,
Life is an Adventure ~
